KUWAIT’S MAJOR GENERAL THAFER ALAJMI (RETD) JOINS THE INTELLIGENT & AUTONOMOUS DEFENCE SYSTEMS GLOBAL ADVISORY BOARD

Former Base Commander of the Kuwait Air Force joins 18-member Global Advisory Board, bringing together senior experts from 13 countries.

KUWAIT, October 26, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Major General Thafer Alajmi (Retd) has been selected to serve on the Global Advisory Board of the Intelligent & Autonomous Defence Systems Summit (IADSS), joining an international group of 18 military, strategic, academic and technology experts from 13 countries.

With 30 years of military experience, Major General Alajmi brings extensive expertise in military aviation, operational command, training and international defence cooperation. His senior appointments within the Kuwait Air Force include Base Commander, Chief of Operations and Training, and Weapon Instructor Pilot within the F/A-18 Training Squadron.

As Base Commander, he led the establishment and development of Salem AlSabah Air Base towards operational readiness, overseeing systems, training, personnel coordination, safety standards and operational discipline. He also served on the Steering Committee for the Kuwait Eurofighter Typhoon Programme.
His career includes appointments as Directing Staff at the Command and Staff College and Kuwait Air Force Liaison Officer in the United Kingdom, supporting international defence cooperation and training coordination.

A graduate of the Royal Air Force College and the Royal College of Defence Studies, with further executive leadership and corporate governance training at the Institute of Directors (IoD) in London, Major General Alajmi brings a strong combination of strategic defence leadership, military aviation expertise, operational readiness and international defence cooperation.

His military leadership, operational experience and expertise in aviation and defence cooperation bring valuable perspectives to the IADSS Global Advisory Board.

His selection comes at a time when intelligent, autonomous and connected capabilities are rapidly reshaping defence, while questions around governance, accountability and human supervision are becoming equally important.

With responsible governance and human control receiving growing international attention, the United Nations Secretary-General and the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross have renewed their call for States to act on autonomous weapon systems, highlighting the need for human control, accountability and appropriate international frameworks.

These developments underline the importance of continued international dialogue, knowledge exchange and shared understanding.

Through its Global Summit Series, hosted across multiple countries, IADSS will bring together governments, armed forces, policymakers, defence experts, research institutions and industry to exchange knowledge, share experiences, learn from past challenges and explore the opportunities and challenges presented by emerging defence technologies.
