Iran UN Envoy Accuses Israel of Worsening Regional Instability

(MENAFN) Iran’s representative to the United Nations said on Tuesday that ongoing actions attributed to Israel across the Middle East are undermining international law and contributing to a growing environment of impunity, urging global institutions to ensure accountability.

Speaking during an open debate at the UN Security Council on developments in the Middle East, the envoy, Amir Saeid Iravani, argued that a lack of consequences for alleged violations is encouraging further escalation.

“The persistent absence of accountability fuels a dangerous culture of impunity,” he said, adding that “those responsible for grave breaches of international law, war crimes and crimes against humanity must be held to account.”

He accused Israel of continuing military operations and restrictions that he said are worsening humanitarian conditions in Gaza, including limiting aid access and contributing to civilian hardship. He also referred to ongoing settlement expansion in the West Bank, which he said violates international law and UN resolutions.

Beyond Gaza, he claimed that wider regional tensions are being fueled by actions attributed to Israel, including activity in Syria, the continued status of the Golan Heights, and what he described as repeated violations of Lebanese sovereignty.

He further stated that any lasting resolution in Gaza would require a permanent ceasefire, a full withdrawal of forces, unrestricted humanitarian access, and recognition of what he described as the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination.
