Iran’s UN Envoy Accuses Israel of Regional Instability and Calls for Accountability
The envoy argued that the lack of enforcement against alleged violations contributes to what he described as a growing pattern of impunity, warning that this undermines international law. He said that those responsible for serious breaches should be held accountable under international legal frameworks.
He also referred to ongoing conditions in Gaza, claiming that continued military activity and restrictions on humanitarian access have worsened civilian suffering and food insecurity. In addition, he cited ongoing settlement activity in the West Bank, describing it as inconsistent with international law and relevant UN resolutions.
Beyond Gaza and the West Bank, he accused Israel of contributing to broader regional instability, referencing military activity in neighboring territories and disputed areas, including Lebanon and the Syrian Golan Heights, and describing these as violations of sovereignty.
On the issue of the wider regional conflict, he said that any resolution must include a lasting ceasefire, withdrawal of forces, and unrestricted humanitarian access, alongside recognition of Palestinian self-determination.
He also referred to reported military actions involving the United States and Israel against Iran, describing them as violations of international law and calling for accountability from both parties involved.
In his remarks, he characterized Israel in strongly critical terms and rejected allegations directed at Iran, describing them as unfounded.
The statements were delivered during an open session of the Security Council focused on developments in the Middle East, where member states exchanged sharply differing views on regional security and responsibility for ongoing conflicts.
