U.S. Imposes Sanctions on 18 Iran-Linked Entities
(MENAFN) The United States on Thursday imposed sanctions on 18 individuals and organizations accused of enabling Iran to bypass existing U.S. restrictions, intensifying its economic clampdown on Tehran’s financial and tech sectors.
In a statement, the U.S. Treasury Department said the sanctions aim at disrupting financial and information technology networks that have allegedly generated unlawful revenue for the Iranian government and supported internal repression efforts.
Among the sanctioned entities is RUNC Exchange System Company, which the department says developed an alternative financial messaging platform. Another targeted organization, Cyrus Offshore Bank, is accused of concealing transactions for Iranian institutions already under U.S. sanctions. The blacklisted group also includes tech company FANAP and its subsidiaries, which are alleged to have played a key role in surveillance operations tied to the Iranian government.
“These actions reinforce our commitment to denying Iran access to the international financial system as long as it continues destabilizing behavior,” said State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce in a written statement.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent described the move as part of Washington’s broader pressure strategy. “The Iranian regime is running out of places to hide,” he said. “Treasury will continue to disrupt Iran’s schemes aimed at evading our sanctions, block its access to revenue, and starve its weapons programs of capital.”
The designations reflect the Biden administration’s ongoing efforts to isolate Iran economically and deter activities it deems threatening to regional and global stability.
